Shaker Gothic Jelly Cupboard (60 high X 12 deep X 22 wide, excluding moulding) $450

Based on the classic Shaker design, but gussied up with a curly maple Gothic panel.

I think the Shaker Jelly Cupboard is an example of perfect design.  I've made well over a hundred of these in my career, in various sizes and with subtle design variations.  This is my first one with maple embellishments, and I think it works rather well.

The Shakers, by the way, weren't really constricted by the oft-quoted "form follows function" concept.  They used functionally superfluous mouldings and turnings, for example.  It's more precise to say that they sought beauty in simplicity, or in a word they would have disliked, elegance.

Rubbed painted pine case, curly maple top and panels.
